LED Mine Safety System Installed in Sudbury, Ontario
x‑Glo Visual Alert System Installed at a Sudbury Mine
x‑Glo North America recently supplied a custom LED safety solution for a mining operation in Sudbury, Ontario.
The project included 15 custom-built Visual Alert Communication Systems (VACS) installed at refuge stations across different levels of the mine.
LED Guidance During an Emergency
Each VACS unit features two 50-metre strips of x‑Glo-14-24VDC-RC LED lighting. During normal operations, the strips remain continuously illuminated to provide underground lighting.
In an emergency, the LED strips change from their standard illumination to red, helping direct employees towards the nearest refuge station.
Supporting Underground Mine Safety
Clear visual communication is important in underground environments, particularly during an emergency. The VACS installation provides mine employees with a visible guidance system designed to help them identify refuge areas.
This project demonstrates how x‑Glo LED strip lighting can be adapted to meet specific safety and communication requirements within mining operations.
x‑Glo is proud to support projects that prioritise visibility and safer working environments in mines, tunnels and industrial facilities.
